"Obama to offer Israel 'nuclear umbrella': report," by Dan Williams

A "well-placed American source" reported that Obama will offer Israel a nuclear umbrella against Iran; if Iran launches a nuclear strike against Israel, the US will retaliate with a "devastating nuclear response against Iran." The same source said this promise would be backed by an improved Israeli anti-ballistic missile system.
Obama has offered to negotiate with Iran and offer economic incentive to stop their nuclear program, but threatened to intensify sanctions if they refused the deal.
Military Intelligence reports that Iran has mastered the technology of uranium enrichment, giving them the capability to produce nuclear warheads. Iran denies its nuclear program has military ambitions.
Questions for the class:
Is the Harretz' source credible?
Should the US protect Israel?

Scary.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe a word of it.
Right now, talks of nuclear war fare is not funny.
Too many people are pissed off and armed.
Yeah, it isn't super likely that someone would just toss up a warhead to prove a point, but similar to the Cold War, times are too tense to print total BS like this.
The author should be slapped.
I don't think that this source is all that credible. We don't know anything at all about the source, and shouldn't trust it.
ReplyDeleteOn the subject of protecting Israel? We don't need to anymore. They have enough of our money. They have one of the greatest armies in the WORLD. When they attack Palestine, they kill women and children, destroy entire villages. I do not want my countries money supporting this. Israel will be fine on their own. And on top of that, we should NOT be getting involved in a religious war that has been going on for thousands of years.
That's just my opinion.
I believe that although our country has alot of resources people need to stop relying on us to fix their battles.
ReplyDeleteThe source is definitely not credible.
ReplyDeleteAs far as protecting Israel, the US needs to forget about other countries for a while, until we fix the problems we have here at home.
While I do agree that the source is sketchy at best, I still the find the issue to be important.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Olivia and Eric about Israel being able to take care of itself as well as the US needing to focus more on domestic issues. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Israel "deal with" some of the less-than-friendly countries of the Middle East. It's not like they haven't had an aggressive history in the area and it may relieve some of the stress from the US.
